A comprehensive pelvic health assessment
We offer a comprehensive pelvic health assessment for any woman who is perimenopausal or menopausal. It can be useful if you’re experiencing symptoms now, or if you’d like to find out how to minimise the risk of symptoms in the future.
What happens at your assessment
As well as checking your general health and wellbeing, we’ll ask you about:
- Your bladder and bowel health
- The health of your vulva and vagina
- Whether you’re having any discomfort or problems with sexual intercourse
We’ll carry out a full examination and assessment of your posture, movement and core activity, and an internal examination to assess your pelvic floor. You’ll then be given advice and exercise tailored to your needs, to help improve any symptoms or difficulties you’re experiencing.
Internal examinations
Your comfort and consent come first
Internal pelvic floor assessments are carried out by a female chartered physiotherapist, and our treatment room is a safe and secure environment. Assessments are only ever carried out with your consent, and you can change your mind at any time. You’re welcome to bring a chaperone with you.
If you’d rather not have an internal examination, that’s not a problem. It’s only one part of the assessment.
Looking after your long-term health
We can also advise on how to minimise other complications of menopause, such as sarcopenia (muscle wastage), osteopenia (brittle bones) and heart health. We also have an extensive network of specialist women’s health services that we can signpost you to, depending on your needs.
